Joe Swaim for District 1 City Councilman Independent:
- Serve as voice of the people, as an Independent I can work with or oppose issues of whichever party may control as Mayor. I owe nothing to any party, but to the people who elect me.
- Do not agree to raise taxes, but to live within our means. I oppose double taxing for trash pickup. I will be accountable to the people's money, spend wisely, and cut wasteful spending.
- Proper project management. There are so many programs that the city is involved in that it has no business being involved with. There is mishandling of projects that has created higher costs, projects not done correctly, and projects that are not properly designed.
- To resurrect economic development in Columbus, for the people of Columbus. We need to give proper incentives to attract new businesses to our great city

The city of Columbus stands at a crossroad. Difficult economic conditions, leadership transitions and unfinished public projects all challenge our community. I view these challenges as opportunities, opportunities for fresh ideas that will guide us to chart paths for the future.
My platform,
- Prioritize city spending to sustain the quality of life in our community
- Refresh collaborative efforts between city departments, community organizations and citizens to find greater efficiencies for greater returns on investments
- Position Columbus to be the destination for new business starts and expansions by strengthening incentives, supporting continued education and embracing diversity in our community

The National Debt is growing at an alarming rate...faster and larger than ever before in our country's history. And who, by default, is responsible for paying this debt? We are! What's worse, our children and grandchildre are set to inherit this atrocious result of Government spending. Remember, the Government makes money in only two ways: 1) the printing of new money, which devalues our current dollar, and 2) taxes. Just look at how fast our legislators are spending OUR money!
